APPLICATIONS:

CHR, Inc. supplies Kapton (Polyimide) heaters for many different applications such as; process control, battery warming, telecommunications, laboratory equipment and anti-condensation. The uses for polyimide heaters are extensive as they are our only heater than can suit any application requiring surface heating from -269° ( to 200 °C (-452F – 392F). Their suitability for arduous conditions has been proven in applications from polar expeditions to space exploration. Using expertly and individually designed etched foil tracks, our Kapton heaters can be manufactured to a range of specifications, shapes and sizes to suit the customers’requirements.

MAIN POINTS:

  • Minimal Thermal Mass
  • High Power Densities
  • Fast and Efficient Thermal Transfer
  • Low Outgassing
  • Precise Even Heating
  • Low Profile
  • IP64 Protection
  • Wide Temperature Range -269°( to 200°c (-452F to 392F)
  • Superb Electrical Insulating Properties
  • Extremely Flexible

CONSTRUCTION:

Kapton (Polyimide) is a semi-transparent, organic polymer film, ideally suited for the manufacture of etch foil heater mats. With its low thermal mass, superb electrical insulating properties and excellent resistance to most chemicals, it allows high power densities with fast and efficient thermal transfer. Being thin and lightweight with a wide temperature range, Kapton polyimide heaters have a distinct advantage over other forms of heating elements.

CHARACTERISTICS:

CHR, Inc. low profile Kapton heaters are renowned for their very good resistance to weather & aging, fungus & bacteria and ozone. In addition to this, they also have an adequate resistance to radiation, and most chemicals, acids and solvents, making them an ideal solution to a wide variety of applications.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

Kapton heaters are intended for use in industrial electric heating apparatus. The heater has to be operated in accordance with local standards and regulations and should be installed on an electrical system protected by a residual current circuit breaker.

Specific Applications

Medical, Military & Aerospace.  When low outgassing properties are required or where thorough cleaning & sterilization is needed, such as for Laboratory research, Photographic equipment, Optical equipment, LCD displays and Computer equipment.

Polyimide (Kapton™) is a semitransparent, organic polymer film, ideally suited for the manufacture of etch foil heater mats. With its low thermal mass, superb electrical insulating properties and excellent resistance to most chemicals, it allows high power densities with fast and efficient thermal transfer.

Being ultra-thin (.2mm thick), lightweight with a wide temperature range the uses for polyimide heaters are extensive as they can suit any application requiring surface heating from -269°( to 200°C (-452F – 392F).

Kapton/Polyimide Heaters have a distinct advantage over other forms of heating elements where a fast response, chemical resistance and a low profile is required polyimide heaters offer the ideal solution.

The mechanical properties of polyimide provide excellent tensile strength, tear resistance and dimensional stability. Polyimide heaters are ideal for applications requiring low outgassing in a vacuum, or resistance to radiation, fungus and chemicals. Polyimide is also very resistant to solvents.

PSA adhesives can be applied to easily adhere the heaters where required.

An extensive range of thermal control devices can be incorporated onto the heaters, these include thermocouples, platinum sensors and limit switches. Pockets and housings can also be applied enabling the client to install their own control devices such as 100 Ohm RTDs/PT100’s and capillary thermostats.

The heaters are intended for use in industrial electric heating apparatus. They correspond to the BEEN 60335-1:2002. The heater has to be operated in accordance with these standards and regulations. The heater should be installed on an electrical system protected by a residual current circuit breaker.
